god

Pan

also: Πάν

Goat-footed god of shepherds and wild places, son of Hermes and the nymph Dryope; Hymn 19 tells of his strange birth, his mother's fright at his goatish look, and how the gods, delighted, named him Pan because he pleased 'the hearts of them all' — a folk-etymology from pan, 'all.'
